Project 4: Nutritional & Clinical Analysis of Curcumin and Otezla

Novemebr 2023
FSHN 250: Nutritional Physiology I Course Project
I explored the nutritional and biomedical roles of turmeric and curcumin, including their absorption, metabolism, and system-level effects. I reviewed evidence showing that curcumin offers anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits that may support cardiovascular, joint, skin, and muscle health.

I also noted that its low bioavailability limits its impact, making absorption-enhancing strategies an important consideration.

I also evaluated clinical and pharmacokinetic findings on Otezla for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. The data showed that the medication reduces inflammatory signaling through PDE4 inhibition and improves symptom severity.

I emphasized its value as an oral treatment option, especially for individuals who prefer non-injectable therapies or are not suitable candidates for biologic medications.
